How I coach

I coach you the way I'd coach myself

Every call on your program, I ask: if this were my career, what would I do? Same goal: go out there and pitch well.

A system, not a template

Over 8 years I've found things that hold up, and I'll put them to work for you. But you're not getting an A day and a B day off a spreadsheet. The best development happens organically, and it takes some creativity. Your program is built around you.

You'll know the why

The goal isn't to do it “right.” It's to do the work, see what it does, and understand why. Every piece of your program comes with the reason behind it.

You'll understand the why the way I do

You're hiring a coach. But I want you to see your throwing as clearly as I see it, so you know exactly why you're ready when it's your turn.

A little about me

Going into my senior year of high school, I didn't have a single college offer. I got cut from my first junior college, and signed with Dallas Baptist out of my second one. I've been lucky enough to pitch eight seasons of pro ball since, with the Mariners and Pirates organizations, at every level from Low-A to Triple-A.

Along the way I've trained at Driveline, Tread Athletics and Top Velocity, coached remotely as a throwing trainer for Driveline, and interned with Dr. Meister's team at Texas Medical Institute. I've learned a lot of it the long way around.

I'd love to help you get there faster. I really believe the next generation of pitchers is going to be better than mine, and I want to be part of that.

For me, getting better meant getting more consistent. It's what I care most about helping pitchers with.

What pitchers tell me changes

They enjoy pitching more.

They trust their stuff.

More confident in their pitches, and more willing to throw all of them.

They're ready for the season.

Prepared for what it's going to ask of them.

Some throw harder, too.

Some of them pick up velocity along the way.

Is it a good fit?

This works best for pitchers who already have some experience, want to throw most days of the week, and have a goal they're excited to chase. If you're brand new to pitching, we're probably not the right fit yet, and I'm happy to point you in a good direction.

“Can remote coaching really work?”

It's a fair question, and the one I hear most. Yes, it can. I've noticed it works best with the athletes I communicate with the most. The pitchers who are eager to learn, and who ask whether they're doing things right, are the ones who get the most out of it.

Questions

Can I cancel?
Yes. It's month to month. Just give me a week's heads-up.
What equipment do I need?
Nothing is required. I'd strongly suggest weighted balls, plyo care balls, and something that reads velocity, like a Pocket Radar or a Stalker gun.
How young is too young?
I usually work with pitchers 15 and up, and sometimes 14 depending on the athlete.
Can I FaceTime you any time?
Calls are scheduled ahead of time, so you get my full attention when we talk. Day to day, text me. I answer within 24 hours, and usually a lot sooner.
What about in-season?
Remote coaching runs through the offseason and wraps up around February, so you head into your season ready.
